DANA El MASRI
Based in Montréal, Dana El Masri is an indie perfumer, olfactive writer, and interdisciplinary artist.
Classically trained at the prestigious Grasse Insititute of Perfumery, and with a final brief/project win under her belt, Dana decided to explore creating her own line. Her perfume house - Parfums Jazmin Saraï - presents a collection of perfumes inspired by songs and Synesthesia. Indeed, Dana’s work focuses on finding the connections between scent, music and culture. She is keenly interested in the role scent can play in social interaction, and explores those themes through the means at her disposal. From creating custom perfumes to working with musicians, scenting live shows and spaces, and educating the public about the world of scent, her aim is to bring perfumery to the forefront as a form of artistic expression.
An avid participant in the international perfume community, Dana often collaborates with fellow perfumers and has created scents for Joya Studio in New York. In 2014 she completed a residency at the Institute of Art and Olfaction, and in 2016 exhibited at the seminal A.I.X. Scent Fair at Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. She has also won the Literary Award for her piece ‘Reflection Eternal’ in Odou Magazine in London in 2015, as well as the Perfumed Plume Award for her piece ‘Flower Power’ - in the “Science of Scent” category. In 2017, Dana exhibited at 'Take Care of Yourself' in Montreal, with a site-specific scent installation using jasmines, to evoke nostalgia and self-acceptance.
Dana is currently working on several new multi-sensory based projects. Watch this space!
2018 marks the second year of Dana El Masri's participation as a judge in The Art and Olfaction Awards. She will serve as a shortlisting judge, in the artisan category.
